Win-Win Cooperation to Promote the Innovation and Industrialization of the Biomedical Industry

A 6-member delegation from Chaoyang District, headed by Mr Lianyuan Cheng, Governor of Chaoyang District, Beijing, China, visited Boston on August 5. The delegation mainly inspected the biomedical industry in the Greater Boston area, and attended the signing and opening ceremony for the establishment of liaison offices between Wangjing Overseas Students Pioneer Park, Chaoyang District, Beijing and Overseas Chinese-American Enterpreneurs Association (OCEAN), Boston, US.
In the morning, with the assistance of Ke Tan, General Secretary of OCEAN, the Beijing delegation, accompanied by Jie Wu, President of Beijing Zhijie Hualong Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Director of the OCEAN Office in Beijing, paid a visit to the Genzyme headquarter. In the afternoon, the Beijing delegation had an in-depth discussion with Dr Windham Bannister, Ms Walsh and other officers of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center regarding how to support the innovation and industrialization of the biomedical industry in a more effective, efficient and equitable manner.
The main purpose of this visit was to attend the signing and opening ceremony for the establishment of liaison offices between Wangjing Overseas Students Pioneer Park and OCEAN, held at S&T Global, Inc. located in Woburn.
Mr Yunzhao Hu, Chairman of OCEAN, delivered the opening speech and welcomed the delegation from Chaoyang District, Beijing to visit Boston and attend the signing ceremony. He pointed out that this landmark cooperation between Wangjing Overseas Students Pioneer Park and OCEAN was a breakthrough step followed by the cooperation intention reached with OCEAN during the last year’s visit of Mr Jun Yan, Vice Governor of Chaoyang District, to Boston. In the future, OCEAN will assist the business invitation, investment attraction and promotion of Wangjing Overseas Students Pioneer Park in the overseas community, and provide evaluation services for the start-up projects in Wangjing Overseas Students Pioneer Park, to introduce and coordinate the venture capital investors in China.
The TransLinka project to be established in Wangjing Overseas Students Pioneer Park is a new generation drug carrier technology developed by NeoBioMed in China. Mr Yuanzhuo Li, Chief Investment Officer of China Guojin General Fund Management Co., Ltd, which is planning to invest in this project, also made a brief introduction of Beijing-Boston Biomedical Industry Funds to be prepared with OCEAN at the signing ceremony.
At this ceremony, Lianyuan Cheng, Governor of Chaoyang District, Beijing, talked about the various advantages of Chaoyang District in human resource and regional area. He pointed out that Boston had inestimable advantages in world’s medical and biomedical industries. The establishment of liaison offices was also an experiment to enhance the communication between Chinese and US medical industries and promote the rapid industrialization of medical technologies in China. He expressed his hope for frequent exchange visits with OCEAN as well as US-based medical scholars, experts and enterpreneurs in the future, to attract excellent talents, absorb advanced technologies, and bring the biomedical industries in China, and particularly Chaoyang District, Beijing, to the forefront of the world.
